Accounts Receivable Checklist Template
An accounts receivable checklist covering invoicing, collections follow-up, cash application, and period-end reconciliation. Keeps AR teams on track with a structured task list, clear ownership, and status tracking.
How to use this template
Generate and send customer invoices
Confirm all billable work for the period has been invoiced. Send invoices to customers and log in the AR system.
Apply cash receipts
Match incoming payments to open invoices. Flag any unapplied cash for investigation and resolution.
Follow up on overdue accounts
Run the AR aging report. Contact customers with balances overdue by 30, 60, and 90+ days per your collections policy.
Review and update the allowance for doubtful accounts
Based on the current aging, assess whether the allowance balance is adequate. Post an adjusting entry if needed.
Reconcile AR subledger to GL
Confirm the total of the AR subledger matches the GL control account. Resolve any differences before closing.
Why use this template
- Ensures every billable item is invoiced before the period closes
- Structured collections follow-up reduces DSO and bad debt expense
- Subledger reconciliation step catches posting errors before they compound
- Clear ownership makes it easy to escalate overdue tasks to management
