Cash Reconciliation Template
A cash account reconciliation template for reconciling the GL cash balance to bank statements. Covers outstanding checks, deposits in transit, bank charges, and other reconciling items to arrive at the adjusted cash balance.
How to use this template
Enter the GL cash balance
Record the ending cash balance from the general ledger as of the reconciliation date.
Enter the bank statement balance
Record the ending balance from the bank statement for the same date.
List outstanding checks
Enter all checks issued but not yet cleared the bank as of the statement date. These reduce the bank balance.
List deposits in transit
Enter any deposits recorded in the GL but not yet appearing on the bank statement. These increase the bank balance.
Reconcile and resolve differences
The adjusted GL and adjusted bank balances should agree. Any remaining difference indicates a posting error or missing entry to investigate.
Why use this template
- Catches fraudulent or erroneous transactions before they go undetected
- Outstanding check and deposit in transit lists keep the reconciliation organized
- Adjusted balance formulas eliminate arithmetic errors
- Monthly reconciliation is a fundamental internal control over cash
